Gilbert Speaks on “Orphan Black” S05 E01

11 Jun

This is it! This is the final season on “Orphan Black” for Tatiana Maslany to portray all of our beloved seestras. Stuck on an Island, Sarah fights for her life while Cosima and Delphine reunite. The Leda project must be terminated at all costs. Can John Fawcett and Graeme Manson do it in ten episodes? Meet me after the jump.

The Few Who Dare

Sarah is doing a good job of surviving out in the cold, but she is badly injured. For now, Cosima is safe and Delphine is alive. A young girl named, Mud, shows Cosima around the encampment. Rachael is meeting with a very old P.T. Westmoreland, and his camp is full of genetically improved campers who will get to drink from some Neolution magic fountain at Camp Revival. While Sarah is hunted down by Westmoreland’s henchmen, something dangerous chases them. Is this man thing a failed experiment?

Art & Felix are searching for Siobhan and Kiri while Donnie and Alison keep Helena safe in their little hideaway in the forest. Ari is hesitant to tell Felix what he knows about the village. But Scott has a plan; he’ll contact MK. Art’s new partner, Engers, threatens his daughter if he doesn’t help her. A dad has to do what he has to do to keep his own child safe.

Donnie abandons Alison when she’s kidnapped by Westmoreland’s henchmen, and Felix is taken prisoner by a Mr. Frontenac. Delphine gets a moment to say goodbye to Cosima before she is sent to Sardania, but she gets enough time to tell Cosima where she hid the treatment for Charlotte and her.

No! No! NO! My favorite clone, Helena, is injured while saving chicken-shit Donnie. A sharp stick stuck in the belly is not good for her babies.

She saved Donnie from one of the hunters, now we have to wonder if Donnie can save her.

Why didn’t Cosima just run away with Sarah? Who is the flesh eater in the woods that tried to kill Sarah? Will that injection really cure Cosima? Does anyone trust Rachael?

The entire series has always revolved around Sarah and her loyalty to family…and what a family she has! Eugenics isn’t new, my little clone club. It’s been around since the early 1900’s. If you’ve ever wanted to wrap your head around a documented conspiracy to regulate and control the human race, then check this out.

Cosima has learned what the goal is for the Neolution community: immortality. Rachael is now overseeing Topside, Dyad, Brightborn and Revival and she is rounding up all the players including Felix. Sarah’s, Cosima’s, and Charlotte’s survival now lay in the hands of Scott and MK.

The reason that Orphan Black has kept such loyal fans is due to the excellent science behind the series. All one needs to do is check out the latest news on genetics to know that cloning of humans is not a theory but a fact.

Do you really trust governments to put the rights of clones before profit? Trump’s administration is ready to kick millions of people off healthcare just to make the rich even richer…so I have no faith in government protecting a cloned person. This is why Orphan Black works so well. It forces us look at the seedy side of science. It makes us question our humanity in a greedy world.

The other reason Orphan Black works so well is because of Tatiana Maslany. This talented young actress has been able to make each one of her characters a distinct and separate person. I have to keep reminding myself that there is no Helena, Cosima, Alison, or Sarah. There is only Tatiana performing the best magic act, ever, and this is why I will truly miss this show when it ends.

See you next week, little clone club!
