Gilbert Speaks on S02 of Colony and The Expanse

5 Jan

There are two really great shows returning to television this year for their second season and, I’ll be watching both. If you’re interested in great science fiction then meet me after the jump.

Colony is a USA hit from executive producer, Carlton Cuse. It stars Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Peter Jacobson, Amanda Righetti and Tory Kittles. There’s been a worldwide invasion and the mysterious aliens have begun a new world order that pits neighbor against neighbor and even family members against each other.

After former FBI agent Will Bowman (Josh Holloway) is forced to collaborate with the alien’s Redhat army, he learns that his wife, Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) is a member of the Resistance group that has captured one of the aliens. One of the Bowman children is trapped behind the wall that surrounds Los Angeles and Bowman will risk all to save his son. The series returns on January 12, 2017, but you can check out my review of S01 here.

The Expanse

The Expanse, which is based on the novels of James S.A. Corey, is a kick-ass awesome science fiction series on the Syfy channel. The story takes place in the future after humans have colonized the solar system. The U.N. controls Earth, while the planet Mars is recognized as an independent military power. All the planets rely on the resources found among the Asteroid Belt. In the future, air and water are more precious than gold. Someone is trying to start a war between Earth, Mars and the Belt and only a handful of people can stop this.

Directed by Terry McDonough, the show stars Steven Strait as the Rocinante’s Captain James Holden, Thomas Jane as Detective Joe Miller, Shohreh Aghdashlod as the U.N. politician, Chrisjen Avasarala. The crew of the Rocinante are amazing even though they all have a few dark secrets that they’d rather not share.  Dominique Tipper plays the part of Rocinante crewmember Naomi Nagata, along with Cas Anvar as Alex Kamal, and Wes Chatham as Amos Burton.

Chad Coleman aka Tyreese from “The Walking Dead” plays Fred Johnson, Chief of Operations on the Tycho Station. When we last saw the crew of the Rocinante, they were dealing with an intelligent bio-weapon that was intent on devouring all it comes in contact with. You can check out my reviews of season one of “The Expanse” on Biff Bam Pop. The Expanse returns on February 1, 2017.

For those of us who loved watching great science fiction series like Firefly and Farscape, then  Colony and The Expanse will be a welcomed surprise for you. These are two shows you won’t want to miss.
